tzNIC attends a workshop on secure and sustainable communication Print E-mail

tzNIC attended a 2 days workshop that was organized by TCRA at their new Head Office – Mawasiliano Towers on 19th and 20th July 2010. The workshop attracted 170 delegates from Kenya, South Africa, Mauritius and Tanzania. The resource persons for the workshop were drawn from Netherlands, Malaysia, Hungary and Tanzania.

The tzNIC Manager was among the resource persons during the workshop. Through a presentation titled  “.tz domain names – a unique Tanzanian identity in cyber space”, the manager shared with other stakeholders on the contribution of the local management of .tz registry to secure and sustainable communications in Tanzania.

Other presentations by the selected resource persons were on:

  • Number portability;
  • Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERT);
  • Legal perspectives towards secure communication;
  • Migration from Analogue to Digital broadcasting;
  • Consumer awareness, rights and obligations and
  • Fair competition in communication sector.
 
The following were some of the recommendations made during the workshop:
  • Education and training on cyber security related courses in local institutions;
  • Setting up a national Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT);
  • All official electronic communications to use the .tz domain names and local hosting of name-servers, mail and web servers for effective content/traffic localization and reduction of Internet connectivity costs;
  • Implementation of Number Portability;
  • Facilitation of smooth and on time migration from Analogue to Digital broadcasting.
